Discipleship

Jesus said, “I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” John 10:10

"Follow Me"  It’s really exciting to be called to follow Jesus and to be one of His 21st Century disciples. We do not resist His call after we have accepted Him into our hearts as our Messiah, our Saviour, and as the Son of God.  Nothing could stop us from going forward with Him.

Knowing Jesus. It’s through knowing Jesus, praying and getting to know the Bible that we discover who God is and our purpose here on earth. It’s just like having our eyes and ears open for the first time because everything starts to make sense. As our knowledge grows and God’s truths are revealed to us, these realisations increase our faith and trust in Him. It is awe-inspiring, all-embracing, and very profound in nature.

“Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” Psalm 37:4

Life-Changing. We are committed to building a world that is good and pleasing to God, and to others. Life on earth can only change for the better if individuals are prepared to live life differently.  These life changes involve our whole being, we need to change in every way - mentally, emotionally, physically, spiritually, professionally, and through all our relationships. It becomes our deepest desire to become better husbands, wives, mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, friends, neighbours, employers, employees ... Our relationship with Jesus makes life better as we learn to live in peace and harmony with others, and walk closely with God.

Building His Church. Jesus calls us to build His church. He does not mean the building but the believers inside, who are described in the bible as the body of Christ. If all believers are committed to the same goal of becoming more like Jesus, they will reflect His love amongst each other, and will naturally demonstrate this same type of love in the world with everyone else that they meet. God's love begins to flows into and out of us.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11

Love one another. We are called to love God first, others next, and ourselves, last. If we do not put God first, we will be incapable of loving others or ourselves adequately enough. When we are self-centred it's not hard to imagine why we ended up with the kind of world we live in now. Life would be so much better if we all loved each other, fed the hungry, housed the homeless, helped the sick, comforted those who mourn, visited the prisoners and forgave each other for all wrongs. Basically, if we loved everyone as He loves us.

The Great Commission. Jesus calls us to share the good news of our salvation with the world. This is the most loving thing we can do for them. It is free and for everyone, so we happily share this with our friends, family, neighbours, and those we meet. He died for us all, and eternal life is available to everyone who believes in salvation through Jesus Christ. To keep this news to ourselves would be tragic on so many levels - especially when we feel like shouting it from the rooftops.

"Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation." Mark 16:15

Discipleship is wide-reaching. It involves worship, prayer, bible study, building Christ's church and ministries throughout the world, helping people in our community, teaching, preaching, training, serving, and much more. However, we are not all called to do the same things, we work together but as different parts of the same body each using our own unique and individual talents so that the whole body will function at its best.

“Follow Me.” If you are interested in living life differently and better - maybe it is time for you to follow Jesus too, and to find your way back to God. Our church is here and ready to welcome you to join us on our journey of faith. We want everyone to feel that wonderful sense of belonging and to find a good and pleasing way of living. Every person needs to feel loved and cared for and to hear the Word of God in a comfortable non-threatening environment. We all need to be set free and saved. There is always someone available who is willing to tell you all about the good things God desires for all of our lives.  Please do not hesitate to make contact with us if you want to hear more about Jesus and what He has done for you.

"Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age."  Matthew 28:19-20
