Bible Study - House Groups

There are a number of House Groups within the church. If you would like to know more, please contact us.

Our house groups are not currently meeting in homes due to Covid-19 restrictions, but they are continuing to work together and have fellowship with each other via Zoom or other means of communication.

40 days with Jesus   40 days with Jesus

The Friday house group led by Marcus Thomas are studying this as of 16 April 2021 on Zoom at 2.30 pm. All members are welcome to join these sessions.

‘40 Days with Jesus’ is a post-Easter resource for individuals, small groups, and churches.

At its heart is an invitation to actively explore the accounts of the risen Jesus. It comes highly recommended by Nicky Gumbel and Greg Haslam.

Nicky Gumbel says, “Dave Smith is one of the most inspirational Christian leaders in the UK today. I am delighted that through this book he has given us not only profound insights into the teachings of the New Testament but helped each of us draw daily closer to Jesus Christ.”

Greg Haslam says, “Here is a heart-warming devotional reading of the first order, colourful theological firecrackers, and unforgettable glimpses of the real Jesus convincing his friends, and even us, that he is really alive! Six weeks that could completely restore your life.”

'After the Cross'

The Wednesday house group led by Brian and Peter will be studying a series they have developed called 'After the Cross' over four to five months, as of April 28th.

This will cover a number of issues to include: The Promise of the Spirit; Recommissioning; The Coming of the Holy Spirit (Empowerment and Evangelism); Facing Opposition; Coping with Diversity (e.g. dealing with a fragmented group of followers); The Struggle of Guidance (e.g. discerning the way forward); and Power Struggles (e.g. learning how to follow Jesus and not individual leaders).

Psalms of Ascent

These are currently being studied by the Tuesday house group overall led by Ray Hodgson, but different members of the group are presenting one of these Psalms each week. All Members of the church are welcome to request copies of the notes for each fortnightly session.

Psalms of Ascent are a powerful but short group of prayers, poems and songs of praise, worship, lament, hope, defeat, victory, and trust in God. The experiences portrayed in them unite people in joy, sorrow, or purpose.

They have been used for individual meditation, collectively in worship, the priests used to sing them as they entered the Temple, and the Israelites used to sing them while traveling together to Jerusalem to worship God at the three yearly festivals.

Ascent means movement upward and there are 15 Psalms of Ascent, Psalms 120 to 134, 4 written by King David: Psalm 122, 124, 131, and 133, David’s son Solomon wrote Psalm 127, and the author of the others is not mentioned in the Bible.
